The arena concession will be open throughout the weekend. There are also a number of restaurants and grocery stores a short distance from the venue.
Where can I eat near the venue? What if I want to bring my whole team/ crew?
There are lots of food options near Acadia Rec Centre – these are recommendations from the Calgary roller derby community. We’ve tried to note those suitable for groups, but calling ahead is always recommended for big groups.
Fast food:
A&W: 9104 Macleod Trail
Starbucks – it’s a Starbucks, and it’s near the venue.
Chicken on the Way: 9673 Macleod Trail, this fried chicken take-out is a Calgary institution. Try the corn fritters (ie deep fried balls of dough).
Calgary Co-op 6905 Macleod Trail SE (near the venue): this grocery store has assorted ready to go take out food.
Market on Macleod: 7711 Macleod Trail SE. Popular farmer’s market with assorted booths and stalls, lots of food options. A great place to visit for lunch, there are also local artisans and crafters selling their wares.
Sit-down casual:
Delta Calgary South (our host hotel): 135 Southland Drive SE has 3 different establishments so you can take you pick between pub fare and sit down dining as well as a breakfast buffet!
King’s Head Pub 9116 Macleod Trail SE. Walking distance from the venue, this pub can handle a group, and are excited to have roller derby folk stop in! Look for their discount cards at the tournament.
Swiss Chalet: 8900 Macleod Trail SE.
Kinjo Sushi and Grill: 7107 Macleod Trail SE highly recommended by many Calgarians, short drive from the venue (Sushi/ Japanese).
Los Mariachis 7400 Macleod Trail SE. Small Mexican restaurant.
Buddha’s Vegetarian: 5802 Macleod Trail. Asian vegetarian restaurant.
Izumi Sushi: 10201 Southport Road – daily specials and a large selection of speciality rolls
Buffalo Wild Wings: 9697 Macleod Trail SE. There is a location of this chain sports bar near the venue. If you mention “Team D” when paying, Southern Alberta Junior Roller Derby will receive a portion of sales. Can accommodate groups.
Original Joe’s. 7403 Macleod Trail. Chain sports bar/ pub with decent food and some good vegetarian options.
